Meteorology is the study of the atmosphere and its phenomena, such as weather patterns, storms and climate variability across short time periods (from hours to weeks). Meteorologists use scientific tools and models to forecast weather conditions and provide valuable information for safety and for daily planning (for example, do I bring an umbrella?).

Climate science/climatology focuses on studying longer-term climate patterns and trends over larger geographical scales (from years to centuries). Climatologists analyse historical weather data and use computer models to understand how factors such as greenhouse gases and natural processes influence climate change. They contribute to our understanding of climate variability, climate change impacts and adaptation strategies.
