Carpenters are skilled tradespeople who work primarily with wood to construct, install and repair structures and fixtures. They may also finish and repair wooden structures such as foundations, walls, roofs, windows and doors. Carpenters use a variety of hand and power tools to cut, shape and join wood and other materials. They work on residential, commercial and industrial projects, creating everything from furniture to cabinets to framing for buildings. Crucial skills for Carpenters include attention to detail, precision in measurements, great time management and problem-solving skills, and the ability to interpret blueprints.
